What we take rust off

  • Driveways, walkways, patios and steps: concrete, pavers and brick

  • Sprinkler and well-water streaks on siding and foundations
  • Rust marks left by metal furniture, grills and planters
  • A rust remover matched to your surface, then a full rinse

How it's priced

One exact price for your job, after we see it. What changes it:

  • How many stains, and how big
  • The surface: concrete, pavers, brick or siding
  • How old and deep the stains are
  • Whether you add it to a pressure wash or house wash on the same visit

Old stains that soaked deep into concrete can lighten without vanishing completely. We'll tell you what to expect when we see the photo.

Local note

Well water, sprinklers and orange stains

When the U.S. Geological Survey sampled 21 wells across the Mohawk River basin in 2011, iron was above drinking-water standards in 8 of them. New York's Health Department says iron above 0.3 mg/l causes rust-colored staining. If your home is on a well and a sprinkler reaches the siding or the walk, that's the usual source.

Questions people ask

What causes orange rust stains on concrete?

Iron. Lawn fertilizer that contains iron turns reddish-brown when it sits on wet sidewalks and driveways (University of Florida turf specialists). Sprinkler water from a well with iron in it does the same, and so does metal furniture left on the concrete.

Can a pressure washer remove rust stains?

Usually not by itself. Rust is a chemical stain. The standard method for concrete is a rust remover that dissolves the iron, left to work, then scrubbed and rinsed (Portland Cement Association). Removers are acids, so we pick the one that suits your surface: concrete, pavers, brick or siding.

Why do the rust stains keep coming back on my siding and walk?

If a sprinkler runs on well water with iron in it, every watering lays down a new layer. New York's Health Department says iron above 0.3 mg/l causes rust-colored staining. We can clean the stains, but they'll come back until the water source is fixed: aim the heads away from the house, or have the well water tested.

How do I avoid fertilizer rust stains next time?

Keep iron fertilizer granules off the driveway and walk, and sweep up any that land there before rain or the sprinkler hits them. That's when the stain forms (University of Florida).
